The High Atlas, part of the Atlas range and North Africa’s largest mountain chain, is one of the most intriguing and inhospitable regions of Morocco. With snowy tops over 4000 meters (13000 feet) the area holds the highest peaks of the Maghreb. The mountain chain with its deep valleys, barren highlands and wide river oases is the physical barrier between the Atlantic plains and the Saharan areas.
